Some kid dates just hit differently — especially the unexpected ones. This month, it was Brody’s turn for our Weekday Kid Date Commitment, and he knew exactly where he wanted to go: Qamaria Yemeni Coffee Co.
If you’re new to our series, each of my kids gets one weekday a month all to themselves. No siblings, no distractions — just intentional time together exploring local gems around the community. The goal is simple: make room for connection in the middle of real life.
And real life definitely shaped this one.
☕ A Slow Morning Instead of a Busy Weeknight
Between school schedules, activities, and the little boys needing extra attention this week, our original date plan didn’t happen. Instead of forcing it, we grabbed a rare late school morning and made our date happen over coffee and sweets — and honestly, it couldn’t have been more perfect.
There is something special about walking into Qamaria early in the day. The space is warm and inviting, the smell of fresh coffee hits you immediately, and the pastry case has a personality of its own. Brody’s eyes lit up the second he walked in.

We ordered a couple of drinks, picked out some desserts, and settled into a cozy corner. Brody got exactly what he had been dreaming about (he’s been talking about this place for weeks), and I got the rare gift of slow conversation with a growing kid who usually moves at 100 mph.
The drinks were incredible, the desserts were rich and comforting, and the atmosphere felt like a little pocket of calm in the middle of an otherwise busy week.
Qamaria has a way of making you want to stay longer than you planned — and for a kid date, that’s magic.
